Gaza Emergency Committees: specialized sub-committees to coordinate civil society efforts to confront the aggression on Gaza Strip
Within the efforts of the Palestinian civil society to face the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip, and in consultation with the members of the general assembly of the Palestinian NGOs network (PNGO) announced the formation and activation of coordinating specialized sub-committees. The primary objective of forming these committees was to unite and coordinate all efforts in the context of the Palestinian civil society''s confrontation to the Israeli continued aggression on the Gaza Strip, as well as responding to the humanitarian situation resulted from such aggression.
In general, the formation and activation of these sub-committees covered the following dimensions: - Medical Committee: activated to coordinate the efforts of the specialized civil society organizations in order to intensify and complement the efforts and activities of these organizations in the area of medical and health needs. The active members were: The Union of Palestinian Medical Relief Committees, Health Work Committees, Thalassemia Patients Friendship Society and The Union of Health Care Committees.
- Economic and Social Committee: to coordinate and integrate the efforts of NGOs with regard to the issues of daily life as well as coordinate the aid and substance donation efforts. The active members were The Union of Palestinian Farmers, The Palestinian Agriculture Development Association, The Palestinian Hydrology Group and the Union of Agriculture Work Committees.
- Psycho-social support Committee: to coordinate and intensify the efforts with the psychological impact of the Israeli aggression, in particular on children. The active members were the Women''s Studies Centre, Young Women''s Christian Association and The Palestinian Counseling Center.
- Human rights Committee: essential to coordinate the process of documenting all Israeli violations of international charters and treaties, in addition to coordinating the process of preparation and representation of reports and memorandums of detailed legal and human rights structure before the concerned international actors in order to stop Israeli war crimes. And, as a subsequent step, to prepare a legal case for the prosecution of Israel as war criminal.
- Media committee: to coordinate the civil society''s media campaign, and to develop an anti-Israeli propaganda media campaign focusing on exposing the crimes of the Israeli occupation. The active members were Ad-Dammeer Prisoners Support and Human rights Association, Women''s Studies Center and The Union of Palestinian Medical Relief Committees. The membership of these committees was open to the participation of all civil society organizations according to their area of expertise. The committees carried out the work in coordination with international organizations and the organizations working in Gaza Strip.
